“Can you imagine your children telling you, “This is the best summer I ever had”? Practically, every parent wants to keep their children engaged socially, physically, and academically during the summer months.
The Montford Point Marines of America (501 c 3 exempt) want to make that a reality by offering an exciting and dynamic Youth Cadet Leadership Program that uses a quasi-military-based style of mentoring that blends fun and physical activity to foster a focused mentality, a greater sense of purpose, discipline, and self-confidence There will be games, contests, awards, and certificates, as well as graduation honors with rites of passage. Youth will learn life skills, conflict resolution, gun safety tips, close-order drills, avoidance of substance abuse, gang activity, and crime. The organizer, Robert Middleton, National Commandant of the Montford Point Marines of America, says, “The Cadet Leadership Camp will prepare youth for higher achievement and success as they progress into adulthood. Ultimately, the program seeks to interrupt the cycle of crime, violence, and the school-to-prison pipeline.”
Mr. Middleton, formerly a Vietnam combat veteran in the Marines, understands the importance of building character, and mental discipline and pursuing excellence and perseverance. He also believes that most young people need to feel a greater sense of purpose, belonging, and acceptance, and to know that their lives matter.
Registration opens Saturday, July 13th at the Martin Luther King track & field. (corner) Mt. Elliot and E. Lafayette.
