 Nation’s first Black U.S. Marines paved the way for many generations of Afro-American Marines to follow. Below are portraits of a few legendary Montford Point Marines who left their indelible mark upon Marine Corps and American history. They were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in June 2012 by President Barack Obama and the 112th U.S. Congress.
